Today’s gospel – Matthew 17:14-23, recounts Jesus’ Healing a Demon-Possessed Boy. The story of Jesus healing a demon-possessed boy teaches us a lot about having faith in Him. Having faith in Jesus means entrusting everything to Him and His power. Having faith is believing that when all else fails, Jesus won’t. Pause for a while and think of a time when things seemed so hopeless and you couldn’t do anything to change the situation. When the worst is far from over, we tend to doubt Jesus’ power to overturn the situation. Having faith means fixing our eyes on Jesus alone.

Today is also the pre-festive day of Dormition.

Also, today is the Feast of the Translation of the Relics of Theodosius of the Caves – Venerable. Saint Theodosius of the Caves was the Father of monasticism in Russia. He worked at the monastery tirelessly by taking it upon himself the work of the other monks. He was not afraid to denounce the powerful leaders of the world. Those individuals treated unjustly were defended by him and he concerned himself with the destitute. He built a special courtyard for them at the monastery where they could get food and drink. St. Theodosius fell asleep in the Lord peacefully in the year 1074. He asked to be buried in a cave which he dug, where he secluded himself during fasting periods. This was granted him 18 years later.
