DEC 20: SUNDAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS – OF THE ANCESTORS, CHILDREN’S PAGENT, ANNUAL ST. NICHOLAS TREE, AND DECORATE CHURCH

DEC 20: DIVINE LITURGY OF ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM – 09:00 AM; CHILDREN’S PAGENT – 10:15 AM; DIVINE LITURGY – 11:00 AM; DECORATE CHURCH AFTER DIVINE LITURGY.

Today’s Gospel, Reading Matthew 1: 1-25, is The Genealogy of Jesus, the Messiah, which summarizes Jesus’ origin.

On this day the Church, the 2nd Sunday before the Nativity, commemorates the ancestors of Christ from Adam to Joseph the Betrothed. Christ’s full humanity meant not just that He possessed a human nature but that He had blood relatives, and that He came from a long family line.  All the great Fathers and Mothers and Prophets of the Old Testament, starting with Adam, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, including Holy Prophet Elias the Thesbite and Daniel, and concluding with Holy Prophet Zechariah (Zachary), Holy Prophet and Glorious Forerunner John the Baptist and The Theotokos.

The Geneology of Christ Parts 1 and 2 (from 1995-2016 Melkite Eparchy of Newton): THE GENEOLOGY OF CHRIST 1 and 2

PROPERS:

NOTE: The annual St. Nicholas tree is in the church and its to help raise money for Ukrainian orphanages. We have been doing this for approximately 15 years, but the need since the Russian invasion is so much higher than normal. We realize that there are countless demands on your wallet at this time of the year.   But if you are inclined to support this mission, please take an envelope from the tree and return it with your donation to the collection basket.  100% of the money collected goes directly to orphanage support in Ukraine.  If you are writing a check, please put “Orphanages” in the memo line.
