HOUSE BLESSINGS

article_12030  Christ is baptized! It is customary, to invite your Priest to bless your home with the Holy Water sanctified on Theophany (the feast which commemorates the Baptism of the Lord in the Jordan River).  A house can be blessed at any time, but the usual season for yearly blessings is from Theophany until the beginning of the Lenten Triodion, which begins four Sundays before Great Lent begins.

Fr Mark is available Thursday and Friday evenings beginning January 16th as well as Saturday afternoons until 3 pm for house blessings.  Please organize yourselves in groups based on location: e.g. North Raleigh and beyond (NORTH), Raleigh-Cary- Apex (CENTRAL) and Fuquay-Varina-Garner South (SOUTH). Durham (West), Clayton (East) and pick a date.  Email the date and which families are participating to the church email so a schedule can be drawn up.

If you are unsure who might live close to you, respond email the church at this email address: Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church <[email protected]> and we can help determine what group you can join.  Also, if you don’t live close to anyone else, email your preference for a date and we will work on scheduling the house blessing for you.

(When a priest visits, there is a pious custom in some places that the family makes a donation to the priest for gas and other expenses. This is appreciated, but it should not be thought of as a requirement. The scripture tells us “Freely you have received, freely give”. The priest comes to the home because he wants God’s blessing to be upon it, and to know those in his flock better and to be available to them.)
