NOTE: Today, Nathaniel McCallum, will continue the education series on the Old Testament after the 9 AM Divine Liturgy! Title: What is the Gospel? A Theological Journey Through the Old Testament. Everyone has an opinion about the scriptures. For some, they are a collection of Iron Age myths or an outdated legal system. For others, they form the basis of monotheism, sometimes with Jesus “bolted on” at the end. When correcting the gnostics, St Irenaeus accused them of having the wrong “hypothesis” of the scriptures. But what is that hypothesis? What is the apostolic deposit? This course, open to teens and adults, will seek to answer this question by probing the structure of the Old Testament. We will use faithful modern scholarship and new archeological discoveries to shine a light on precisely what the apostles taught and why the Catholic reading of scripture is faithful to their vision. Bring a copy of the scriptures and your curiosity!

This Sunday’s Gospel reading is Matthew 15:21-28, The Faith of a Canaanite Women, in which Jesus leaves the region of Galilee and went north into the region of Tyre and Sidon. This was His first visit to a Gentile nation. While there, Jesus is approached by a Canaanite woman, who sought help for her demon-possessed daughter. Though the disciples wanted her to go away, her faith persisted and she refusd to be deterred, and Jesus Christ rewarded her for it. He states that her faith was great and that her daughter was healed. Thus, great faith, commitment, and courage brings great rewards. The apostles received an important lesson.
