We commemorate today, Saint Ephrem the Syrian, was born and also, died, in what is now, Turkey. He was the Prophet of the Syrians as well as a Christian theologian, doctor of the church, poet, orator, exegete and defender of Orthodoxy (from Byzantine Seminary Press calendar). He composed a number of theological-biblical commentaries and polemical works that, in witnessing to the common Christian tradition, have exerted widespread influence on the Greek and Latin churches. He was named by Pope Benedict XV a doctor of the church in 1920 (from Orthodox-Wiki).
