The feast day commemorates the Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul for their ministry of the teachings of Jesus and their martyrdom in Rome. We also complete the Apostle’s Fast on June 29th. The Gospel Reading is Matthew 16: 13-19 in which Peter declares Jesus the Messiah. Jesus blesses Peter for this news was revealed by Jesus’ “Father in heaven.” Jesus also tell’s Peter that he is the “rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it.”
