MAR 27: COMMEMORATION OF MATRONA, MARTYR, VENERABLE

Today we commemorate the holy mother, Matrona, Martyr, who lived during the 2nd century AD. She served a Roman Empire Jewish official, by being a companion to his wife, Pladilla, when she prayed at the Synagogue. Matrona, took the opportunity during this time to visit a temple next to the Synagogue and prayed to Christ. Pladilla was angered by this and had her husband demand Matrona deny Christ, Matrona refused and proclaimed herself a Christian. She was, thus, imprisoned and tortured for a long time, and eventually died, as a martyr.
