MAY 12: SUNDAY OF THE FATHERS OF THE FIRST ECUMENICAL COUNCIL, MOTHER’S DAY, AND EASTERN CHRISTIAN FORMATION CLASS DAY

 holy_fathers2 MAY 12: CONFESSION – 08:30 AM, DIVINE LITURGY – 9:00 AM (LIVE-STREAMED),  EASTERN CHRISTIAN FORMATION CLASS – 10:30; DIVINE LITURGY – 11:00 AM.

On May 12th we commemorate all our mothers (birth, adoptive, role-models, mother figures) as well as those deceased. Mother’s Day gives us all a chance to really think about what our own mother or mother figure means to us, or what being a “mother” brings to our and others lives. May God Grant them many years! Also, Eternal Memories!

God with Us Online Prayer and Study Guide – The Sunday of the Fathers of the First Council of Nicea (from May 16, 2021): https://godwithusonline.org/reflections/the-sunday-of-the-fathers-of-the-first-council-of-nicea-ruthenian/

This day commemorates the 318 God-bearing Fathers who gathered in Nicaea in 325 at the request of the Emperor, Saint Constantine the Great, to address the heresy of Arianism together with other issues that concerned the unity of the Church.

The Gospel Reading is from John 17:1-13, which is often called the “pontifical prayer of Christ.” Jesus encouraged the disciples to face bravely the coming tribulations and He raised their spirits through prayer.  Jesus prays for us because He knows how difficult it will be for us to keep our faith and avoid temptation. By praying, He teaches us that when temptations overtake us, we should put everything else aside and look to God.
