The Feast of the Entrance into the Temple of Our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary is celebrated on November 21 each year. The Feast commemorates when as a young child, the Virgin Mary entered the Temple in Jerusalem. The Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple signifies her total dedication to God and her readiness for her future vocation as the Mother of the Incarnate Lord. This is a feast of anticipation.

The Gospel Reading for this Feast is Luke 10:38-42 & 11:27-28, in which Jesus is “At the Home of Martha and Mary.” We read how Martha busy’s herself to prepare the home and meal, while Mary listens to Jesus attentively. Martha complains to Jesus about Mary, but Jesus responds: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her”. Do you know the “better part?” In our culture, we are busy and pulled in different directions, but all these activities may leave us no time to hear God’s word, attend church, be kind, serve others, or share joy with others. Thus, for a vital Christian life, we need to listen and be “nourished” by God’s Word first!
