The Gospel Reading this Sunday is Luke 13:10-17, Healing on the Sabbath. In Luke’s Gospel he describes a crippled woman whom Jesus heals on the Sabbath with His words and touch. Jesus demonstrates His power & compassion. By His laying of hands, He shows those present the value of coming to Him and obeying God, for nothing good comes to those who disregard God’s word. Thus, if we want God to “touch” us, then we must be near Him in word, deed, and we must do so at all times in order for His influence upon our lives. Additionally, what better day to heal than on the Sabbath, since praise and rejoicing occur as responses to God’s work through Jesus in healing those who need it. When we are close with God at all times, His influence is upon our lives.
