Today’s Gospel, Luke 7: 11-16, tells of Jesus and the Widow’s Son. Jesus comes upon a funeral procession making its way to a freshly dug grave. The deceased is a young man, and among the mourners is his mother, a widow.  Without her son, she is losing her last support & the loss devastates her life in every way. In an instant, Jesus understood the situation & is moved by compassion. Thus, stretching forth His hand, He brought the man back to life. He performed this miracle out of love. Like this woman, at times we are distraught by fear or pain and anguish by our own sin. Our faith may not be as sturdy as we would like. We may have friends or family members we are deeply concerned, but they have no faith at all, thus leaving our own faith shaken or challenged. In that case, we rely on God’s love. The same love that caused Jesus to resurrect the son of a woman he did not know. Our faith carries us toward God. God’s love is what brings Him to meet us. God is never blind to our suffering, or to our deepest needs.
