GOD WITH US ONLINE CATECHETICAL RESOURCES FOR 20TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST (from Oct. 23, 2022): https://godwithusonline.org/reflections/the-twentieth-sunday-after-pentecost-ruthenian/
The Gospel Reading today is Luke 16: 19-31, which tells us the Parable of the rich man and poor Lazarus. The Gospel starts: ““There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.” They both die and we learn that Lazerous goes to Heaven and is comforted, but the rich man stays in Hades and in torment and thirst. Though the rich man appealed to Abraham that Lazarus “cool his tongue” and return to earth to warn his brothers, Abraham denied these appeals because if they don’t believe the current prophets then they wouldn’t believe Lazerus. Thus, note how you use your wealth in life and how you treat those less fortunate. Your earthly possessions are no benefit after death, but what you do with them on Earth is!
