protectionTheotokosBlue  SEPT 30: VESPERAL DIVINE LITURGY – 4:00 PM; OCT 1: MATINS – 7;00 AM, DIVINE LITURGY –  10:30 AM; OCT 3 – DIVINE LITURGY & CATECHISM – 11:00 AM; OCT 4: DIVINE LITURGY – 6:00 PM.

The Feast of the Protection commemorates the appearance of the most holy Theotokos in the Church of Blachernae in Constantinople in the early sixth century, as recorded in the life of Saint Andrew the Fool for Christ’s sake.

The Gospel Readings today are Luke 6: 31-36, in which we are instructed by Jesus to “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Also, we read Luke 10: 38-42, in which Jesus is at the Home of Martha and Mary, and Martha discovers the one thing necessary in life is to listen to Jesus’ Word. The final reading is Luke 11: 27-28, in which a woman in the crowd called out to Jesus, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” and Jesus replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
