JAN 14 & 15: 35TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

 JAN 14: 2;00-2:45 PM – CONFESSIONS, 3:00 PM – GREAT VESPERS; JAN 15: 07:00 AM – MATINS, 10:00 AM – DIVINE LITURGY, 12:30 PM – SPANISH LITURGY.

This Sunday’s Gospel reading is Luke 18:18-27, The Rich Young Ruler. This story of the rich young ruler reveals how, in spite of the fact that he came to Jesus and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus told him to give up everything and follow him. This he couldn’t do, since wealth possessed him and he couldn’t part with it. It is a difficult thing for a self-sufficient person to realize his or her need and come to Jesus, but the things which are impossible with men are possible with God. He wanted salvation on his terms and not God’s, so he went away in great sorrow.
