Samhian-HolidayOCT 30:  12:00 PM. Come dressed as Saints and beggars for an old fashioned Catholic Halloween. Please bring your friends. Bring a pumpkin to decorate and carve. We will also have food and games!
The name “Halloween” began as “All Hallows Eve.” It was the evening before All Hallows Day, which was later called All Saints’ Day. (“hallows” meant “saints.”) The roots of the trick-or-treat custom lie in the European tradition of ‘souling’. Beggars go from village to village asking for soul cakes. If soul cakes offered to the beggars, they would promise prayers to the dead relatives of the donors.
